Agents
What an agent is, how to create one, how the agent page is laid out, and how an agent moves from setup to active, inactive or deleted.

An agent is an assistant people chat with. You give it instructions, a model, the data sources it may read and the tools it may use. Agents live in Studio > Agents.
The agents list
Each card shows the agent's status, model, connections and tools. A badge shows your access if you are not the owner: Can manage, Can use or Can view. Filter by status or search by name.
Create an agent
Click Create Agent. You can start in three ways:

| Start from scratch | Click Build my own to create a blank agent and configure everything yourself. |
| A template | Start from a ready-made agent and fill in its details. See Templates. |
The agent page
An agent opens as a canvas, not a set of tabs. The agent sits in the middle, and what it uses is drawn around it:
- Data connections on the left.
- Training Sets and Tools below it.
- Sharing on the right, once the agent is shared with someone.
The agent card has Configure, which opens the settings panels, and Try Now, which opens a new chat with this agent. It also has Activate when the agent is ready. In the top bar, Share decides who can use the agent, and + adds a connection, tool or training set. Click any item on the canvas to open its panel.
Lifecycle
| State | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Needs Configuration | The agent has no system prompt or no model yet. The missing panels are marked in Configure. |
| Ready to Activate | Instructions and a model are set. You can test it in the playground, but people cannot pick it in chat yet. |
| Active | The agent is live on the channels you turned on. |
| Inactive | The agent was deactivated. Its configuration is kept and you can activate it again. |
An agent created from a template shows setup needed in the list until you finish its setup.
Activate, deactivate, delete
- Activate needs a system prompt and a model. You cannot remove the system prompt of an active agent.
- Deactivate in Agent Management takes the agent offline without losing its configuration.
- Delete Agent is available only to the owner.

Who can do what
Access to an agent is granted by sharing it. Click Share on the agent page and add people with one of these levels:

| Can view | See the agent and its settings, read only |
| Can use | Chat with it and test it in the playground |
| Can manage | Change its settings, activate or deactivate it, and share it |
| Owner | Everything above, and delete it |
Org admins can always see that an agent exists. Sharing decides who can use or manage it.
